Worried by moral decadence in the society, with many youths now involved in drug abuse, prostitution, Internet fraud, among others, a media and entertainment firm, Oscharlx, has concluded plans to host a music talent hunt for teenagers.
The Managing Director, Charles Osemene, at a press briefing, yesterday, in Lagos, said the Naija Teen Star (NTS) is an online television reality show based in which public opinion, through votes, determines the winner.
According to Osemene, successful participants will make it into the Academy scheduled to hold in Lagos.
He said: “This is the first. Our teenage talent show, Naija Teen Star, will catch and groom them young. This is the only talent hunt show targeted at teenage creative talents.
“Our mission is to bring fun to the Nigerian audience and provide the right platform to the youths in Nigeria.”
Expressing his belief in partnership with corporate organisations and well-meaning individuals to have Africa’s first teenage music reality TV show, he added: “We seek to push for success in life, society, school and develop future stars, to elicit capacity building among the youths, increase the market share of brands among the youths, provide a veritable platform for youths to interact, connect and identify with brands, contribute positively to the lives of youths by influencing their psyche and redirecting their energy towards positive constructive function and to promote the catch-them-young culture in various sectors and developed countries.”
He said 10 participants chosen from each of the six geopolitical regions will perform live, with one winner emerging and going home with N20 million, full scholarship and one year recording deal.
“We are going to bring fun to the Nigerian audience and provide the right platform to the teeming teenagers in Nigeria to showcase their God-given talents as early as possible in music. This, indeed, is a foray into ‘catch them young’,” he said.
